Informed by the University’s mission and legislative mandates, namely, Chapter 10 of the Constitution 1996, the Higher Education Act, 1997, the Public Finance Management Act, 1999, the White Paper on Transforming Public Service Delivery, 1998, the School of Public Administration seeks to become the regional centre of excellence to meet the increasing demand for educating and training a high quality cadre of public officials and public representatives.

As the general thrust of organizations such as the African Union (AU), Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) is to contribute to strengthening the political and administrative framework of participating countries, in line with the principles of democracy, transparency, accountability, integrity, respect for human rights and promotion of the Rule of Law, the School aspires to play a meaningful and constructive role in that regard.

The School is cognizant of the need and urgency to address South Africa’s and the continent’s human resource and development needs.  In that regard it aspires to:

Strive for continuous improvement (total quality management)
Promote the philosophy and concept ubuntu in its interaction with students and the wider community
Respond to the needs of community and government.

The School is currently led by Dr Pregala Pillay.
